Birthplace of Tokyo Moa Gakko (Tokyo School for the Blind and the Speech Impaired) and Japan Braille System
【発祥年】明治13（1880）年
文化人や宣教師の支援で「楽善会訓盲院」として開校しました。その後官立となって東京盲唖学校と改称された後、明治24年に文京区内に移転しました。築地にあった頃に、教員や生徒たちによって日本語の点字が考案され、現在の日本の点字の原型となっています。
【Birth Year】1880
The school was opened as "Rakuzen-kai Kunmou-In" with support from cultured individuals and missionaries. Afterwards the school was nationalized and changed its name to Tokyo School for the Blind and the Speech Impaired. In 1891, it moved to Bunkyo-ku. In the time it was in Tsukiji, teachers and students devised Japanese Braille, which was used as a prototype of the current Japanese Braille.
