Shinjuku Juniso Kumano Shrine

Basic Information

Description

Kumano Shrine is a historic shrine, known as the "Guardian Shrine of Shinjuku". In the Muromachi period (1394-1428), Mr. Kuro Suzuki, called Nakano-choja, enshrined the Junisho (deity of twelve locations) in his hometown, Kumano Miyama of Kishu. Many cultural assets preserve the history of Nishi-Shinjuku in the grounds and halls of the shrine, and it is also known for the beauty of cherry blossoms in spring and ginkgo trees in fall.

Recommend point

It is derived from the Kumano Shrine, a rare spiritual power spot in Tokyo ✧✧ In the old days, the surrounding area was a scenic spot with a pond and waterfall, there is a "monument of Juniso" which described the scenery in the yard of the shrine. There are rare Koma inu, statues of dogs, whose gaps between legs are not curved. So try to find them during exploration!
