Shojin (temple vegetarian) cuisine is served here either in individual rooms or in the large common room. Reservations are required. Call for details or to make a reservation. (Note that menu options and/or ingredients may differ depending on the season).

古くから修験道の霊山として山伏が修行を行う高尾山薬王院には、即身即仏と考える山伏ならではの精進料理への考え方があります。「私たち修験道山伏は、山も自然現象も、私たちも含めて、生きるもの全てが仏様だと考えています。山で採れた山野草をいただくのは仏様の恵みをいただくということです。」ここには精進料理を食べる時に厳しい作法はありませんが、私たちは命に対する敬意を表し、関わっている全てのもの、全ての人に感謝の気持ちを込めて食べるという作法はあります。

Since long ago, Mt, Takao and Takaosan Yakuoin have been sacred Shugendo practice sites for the yamabushi ascetics. These practitioners, who believe in the possibility of enlightenment during our lifetime, have a certain way of thinking about shojin vegetarian temple cuisine:
"We Shugendo practitioners believe that everything is Buddha , including ourselves, the mountains, and the entire natural environment. So when we eat the mountain vegetables, we are also enjoying the gifts of the Buddha."
Though there are no strict rules here regarding how to eat shojin cuisine, in a show of respect for life, we give thanks to everyone involved in the preparation of the food.
